Stanton and Terio named BSN All-Americans

NEWPORT, R.I. – The postseason awards continue to come in for a pair of Salve Regina football players as junior Phil Terio (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Hayden Stanton (Wallingford, Conn.) earned a spot on the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) All-America teams. Terio and Stanton represent two of the four student athletes from the New England Football Conference to earn a selection. Salve Regina is the only team to have more than one representative from the NEFC.

Terio has been named a BSN All-America cornerback for the second-straight season with a selection to the third team. The junior corner earned a pair of spots on both the NEFC All-Conference teams and the D3football.com All-Region teams as a cornerback and return specialist following the season. Terio finished the season fourth on the team with 60 tackles, including 4.0 tackles for loss for nine yards. Terio intercepted two passes while finishing the season with eight pass break ups (including interceptions).

Joining Terio as an All-American is Stanton. The sophomore defensive tackle was named to the BSN All-America Honorable Mention team. Stanton was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Year as well as a first team all-conference selection and a first team D3football.com All-Region honoree. Stanton is ranked 15th in the country for sacks finishing the season with 11.5 for 64 yards. The sophomore was fifth on the team with 57 tackles that included a league-leading 17.0 tackles for loss for 94 yards. He is currently ranked third all-time at Salve Regina in yards from sacks (97) and quarterback hurries (11) and tied for third in forced fumbles (4) in his career. Stanton is fourth in the Seahawks record books with 147 yards from tackles for loss and tied for fourth with 16.5 sacks in just his first two seasons in the Seahawk blue and green.

The pair helped the Seahawks to their fourth-straight winning season and 12th in their short 21 year history with a 7-4 record this year and a trip to the ECAC Northeast Bowl Game.
