Bio
Steve Cirella ended his 14-year career as head coach of the Salve Regina University baseball program in 2012-13, reaching the final day of the conference championships. During his tenure, the Seahawks captured a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships, advanced to both the ECAC (2003, 2004) and NCAA Tournaments (2001, 2005) twice, and captured an ECAC title (2004).
In 2013-14, Cirella began serving as an assistant coach as his oldest son, Eric, took over as the fifth head coach in the history of the baseball program.
A two-time CCC Coach of the Year, Cirella produced a career record of 318-233-2, making him the winningest coach in program history. The Seahawks won 20 or more games during 11 of their 14 seasons under Coach Cirella, including a then school-record 32 wins in 2006.
He was named to the Rhode Island Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
In addition to his duties as Director of the Jamestown Baseball School, Cirella has also served as head coach of the Coventry (R.I.) High School varsity baseball team and coached teams in both the George Donnelly Sunset League and American Legion.
Cirella played football at both the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and the University of Rhode Island, where he earned his bachelor's in 1979 and his master's in 1985.
Cirella resides in Jamestown with his wife, Lori, and youngest son, Stephen Jr. His daughter Rachael was a four-year member of the Seahawk volleyball program and graduated in 2009.
