INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 58 teams that will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship and has placed Salve Regina University, winners of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship and automatic bid, in a four-team regional with Babson College, Trinity (Conn.) College, and Keystone College, hosted by the Bantams in Hartford, Conn.

Four teams will compete at thirteen regional sites and two teams will compete at three regional sites. The four-team regionals will use a double-elimination format and the two-team regionals will play a best-of-five series. Forty conference champions qualified automatically.

Winners of the sixteen regional tournaments will qualify for eight, best-of-three series at the super regionals, Friday-Saturday, May 24-25. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Friday-Tuesday/Wednesday, May 31-June 4/5, 2019.

Recent history against the Bantams: Trinity and Salve Regina played twice this spring with the Bantams coming out on top in both games. Trinity won, 7-3, in Newport in late March before earning a 9-1 victory over the Seahawks in April at Hartford. The Seahawks beat the Bantams, 7-2, in Winter Haven, Fla., on St. Patrick's Day in 2017.

Against the rest of the field: Salve Regina has met Keystone three times in Winter Haven, Fla. (twice in 2009, once in 2010), and the Giants have won all three meetings. Seahawks have won three times in 17 meetings with the Beavers. Their most recent meetings came in the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships Harwich (Mass.) Regional with Babson taking the opening game, 14-3, and then eliminating Salve Regina, 5-4, in a late Saturday evening contest.

Scouting the Seahawks: Salve Regina won the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament to earn an automatic bid to this year's NCAA Tournament. The Seahawks are back in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years and fifth time in school history after going 27-16 this year. The Seahawks are hitting .297 as a team with a .378 on base percentage. Zack Smith leads the way offensively with a .406 average and nine homers while Patrick Maybach and Michael Mathews give the Seahawks two pitchers averaging over 13 strikeouts per nine.
