CCC Baseball: Seahawks sweep weekly awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 13, 2019) -- The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected three baseball players from Salve Regina University as its honorees for championship week - junior pitcher Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.), freshman first baseman Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.), and sophomore infielder Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.).

Player of the Week - Anthony Cieszko, Salve Regina (So., INF/OF)
Salve Regina sophomore Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) hit safely in all eight games of the CCC Baseball Championship tournament as the Seahawks captured the 2019 CCC Baseball Tournament title. He also scored five runs and drove in eight during the tournament. He drove in at least one run in the final four games of the tournament starting with a bases clearing double in the Pod A Final that capped a five-run inning for the Seahawks as they advanced to the CCC Championship Series. Throughout the tournament he batted .385 and collected six free passes.

Pitcher of the Week - Patrick Maybach, Salve Regina (Jr., P)
Junior left-hander Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) made a triumphant return to the Salve Regina pitching staff in the CCC Championship Tournament, winning two crucial elimination games en route to the Seahawks' third conference title in four years. He made his first postseason appearance in the Pod A Final, tossing 6 1/3 innings, while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out five. He returned in the second game of the CCC Championship Series with the Seahawks needing a win. He threw six innings of two-hit ball, allowing one earned run, and striking out nine, as he picked up the victory and forced a winner-take-all game for the CCC Championship. Overall, Maybach threw 12 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts and a 2.23 ERA.

Rookie of the Week - Sean O'Malley, Salve Regina (Fr., 1B)
Freshman Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) had his bat come alive late in the CCC Baseball Championship tournament, collecting hits in last five games. Throughout the tournament, he drove in seven runs for Salve Regina; none bigger than his two-run double in the sixth inning of the deciding game of the CCC Championship Series. The hit broke a 1-1 tie with the runs serving as the eventual championship clinchers. He batted .455 in the three-game Championship Series with two doubles and five RBI. He also scored two runs.
