NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University and Clark University met on a baseball diamond for the first time in 27 years, and the Cougars came back against the Seahawks to win 12-8 at Reynolds Field on the Salve Regina campus.

The Cougars combined for 16 hits and a five-run sixth inning helped lift them to the non-conference victory. Andrew Thibeault went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while junior Zach Kelley chipped in with three RBIs in a 2-for-4 day. Salve Regina hopped on the board with a run in the bottom of the first when Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) singled to score John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.). Clark responded in the top of the second when Kelley recorded his third homerun of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Zack Barlok (Cheshire, Conn.) put the Seahawks back on top with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth, and three more RBI in the bottom of the fifth increased their lead to 7-1.

Clark rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap to one run, 7-6. Kelley started the rally with another RBI when he singled to right field to scored Teddy Downing (Cambridge, Mass.). A hit from Derek Lefebvre (Groton, Mass.) scored Downing and Nick Jordan (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded a sacrifice fly to center field to score Kelley (7-4). With one out Andrew Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) doubled to center field that crossed Lefebvre and Chris Radovic (Fairfield, Conn.) followed up with a double of his own, this time to left field, and Thibault scored (7-6).

After three quick outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars took their first lead of the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. Kelley recorded his third RBI when he scored Bonicki and a double from Jordan gave Clark the 8-7 lead. Salve Regina was able to add one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but a homerun from Radovic in the eighth and three more runs in the ninth secured the final 12-8 victory for the Cougars.
