Salve Regina scores six early and three late

PROVIDENCE, RI – After rallying from a six-run deficit, the Johnson & Wales University baseball team gave up three runs late in the game to Salve Regina University. The Seahawks defeated the Wildcats, 9-6, on Tuesday.

Of Note:
The Seahawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning off JWU starter Ryan Depatie. Colton Eremain had a two-run single that scored Zach Smith and Alex Perry.

Johnson & Wales slowly chipped away at the SRU lead. Kevin Duffy hit a solo home run in the second then Anthony Roman followed with a double to score Aidan Hagarty.

Tim Lombardi had a sacrifice fly to score Colby Greenhalgh in the third and came through with a two-run single in the sixth that scored Raimiel Rodriguez and Roman with the tying runs.

Christian Vargas scored Dylan Ketch with a double in the eighth inning off JWU reliever Josh Mousseau. He was saddled with the loss despite only giving up one run on four hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts in 6.2 innings out of the bullpen.

Tommy Seaver threw a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the victory and Brett Wilkes got the final six outs for his first save of the season.
