NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) as its Rookie of the Week for baseball (Feb. 26 - Mar. 4).

CCC Rookie of the Week: Cieszko (pronounced see-ESS-koe) collected three hits, two RBI and a run scored in his collegiate debut as the Seahawks opened the 2018 campaign with a 6-0 victory over Framingham State. In addition to notching leadoff singles in the sixth and eighth innings, Ciesko stroked a two-run single with two outs in the top of the ninth that broke open a 2-0 contest.

Salve Regina head coach Eric Cirella on Cieszko's debut: "I was really proud of the way Anthony went about his business on Sunday. He has tremendous work ethic and wants to be successful and it really showed on Sunday, even though I know he was really nervous leading up to the game. He made a few plays in the field, helped out Pat (starting pitcher Maybach) by starting a nice double play, and then really picked up the offense with a two-out, two-RBI single in the ninth inning. It was important to get the nerves out now so that we can continue to improve as we head down to Florida."

The Seahawks fly to Florida on Wednesday before opening a nine-game schedule against Rowan University on Friday at Henley Field in Lakeland (3 p.m.) as participants in the RussMatt Invitational.
