SALVE REGINA IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
- The Seahawks have won eight (7) Commonwealth Coast Conference baseball championships since entering as a charter member; titles in 1985, 1991-1994, 2001, 2005, and 2016.
- Salve Regina's four-year string of titles from 1991 to 1994 was only matched (and surpassed) by five in a row from Western New England University (2008 to 2012).
- Salve Regina has also reached the finals on five other occasions - 1996, 1999, 2002, 2003, and 2007.
- These two teams met in the finals three other times - Salve Regina won the matchup in 2001 on Reynolds Field, two years later Endicott won 13-10 at Cardines Field (both in Newport), and last year at Beverly, Mass., the Seahawks needed to win two to win their latest championship (10-3 and 2-1).
HOW THEY GOT HERE
No. 2 seed Endicott defeated No. 3 seed Western New England University, 5-4, on Saturday. Advancing to the pod final needing just one victory, the Gulls were forced to an elimination game with Gordon College winning 5-4 in an earlier contest on Sunday. Endicott put the final game away early with a 15-0 score against the Scots.
No. 1 seed Salve Regina defeated No. 4 seed Curry College, 6-2, on Sunday. No. 5 Nichols College eliminated the Colonels later that afternoon to set up a pod final at Reynolds Field on Monday. The Bison took the first game, 8-6, but were eliminated by the Seahawks who scored a 10-0 victory in the pod final.
