NEWPORT, R.I. - In the first regional rankings released by D3Baseball.com, Salve Regina claims the No. 9 spot in New England.

In addition to a third straight season with a regional ranking, Salve Regina's strength of schedule continues to impress as the Seahawks have wins over three of the region's top four teams including No. 1 Southern Maine, No. 3 Amherst, and No. 4 Endicott.

Salve Regina, 20-12-1 overall and 9-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), heads into final weekend of conference regular season play with a chance at earning the league's top seed for postseason action. Seahawks are at the Hawks on Saturday before hosting the Golden Bears on Sunday.

Seven of the other nine teams in the poll have been featured on the Salve Regina baseball schedule for 2016. Wheaton had to cancel due to re-scheduling its conference game on the original date. Salve Regina and St. Joseph's will now play a doubleheader, two seven-inning games, on May 10 in Standish, Maine. Last month in Florida, the Seahawks played the Saints of St. Scholastica (Minn.) which now has a No. 6 ranking in the Midwest region.
