NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University baseball throws its first pitch on Friday, March 18, in Auburndale, Fla., against Washington and Jefferson College in the 2016 RussMatt Invitational. The Seahawks begin the season with 10 games in eight days against eight different opponents in Florida during spring break.

The average win total in 2015 for the first eight opponents of 2016 exceeds 23, with two schools posting over 30 victories and another came up just shy of that mark (29 by the Presidents - Washington and Jefferson).

The schedule features live stats and video with play-by-play for all home games at Reynolds Field on the Newport campus, as well as seven of the games in Florida. With Salve Regina softball also playing its spring break contests in central Florida, sports information director Ed Habershaw will broadcast 17 of the combined 20 games involving the Seahawk teams.

Third-year head coach Eric Cirella (52-31; .627) will also have his team in a rematch in late March with Framingham State University, whom the Seahawks defeated last May for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship. Salve Regina opens its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular season schedule on April 2 against Eastern Nazarene College.
