Reed Trophy

Summary

Saturday, April 23:

Sailors arrived to Short Beach greeted with light rain with overcast skies and a light northerly. By the competitors meeting the rain had stopped. Racing started right on time at 10am in a shifty NNE breeze. A divisions sailed Z420's and B division sailed FJ's. The skies cleared throughout the day and the breeze moved from NNE to NW. It was very shifty all day with decent velocity changes. All races were sailed inside the cove and rotations took place on the dock. 10 races were completed in both divisions using courses W3, 4 and 5's. Racing was completed exactly at Z4:20pm. Three teams earned DSQ's and one team retired after a race. Boston College currently leads the way.

Sunday, April 24:

A very fickle northerly northerly met the competitors today. The 10am start proved too early for the light breeze. After a very short postponement ashore one A race was completed with the B race called off on the first beat due to a large left shift. That large shift was the last of the breeze of an hour or so until a light Southerly filled. The remaining 5A and 6B races were completed in a freshening but oscillating breeze. The wind maxed out at about 12-14 knots with a good chop. Again all races were sailed in the cove using the course W4 configuration. One breakdown and one request for redress were heard and both were disallowed. One protest was heard and disallowed Our busy judges were Marlena Fauer, Caleb Dorfman and Peter Bailey. Niantic Bay, Connecticut College and Coast Guard brought coach boats to the event and we are greatly appreciative. Winning the 2016 Reed Trophy are the Coast Guard Bears! Congrats to the top 11 team who have qualified for the Women's Semi Finals in San Diego next month. And last but not least Justin Assad from Dartmouth served as the NEISA rep and did an outstanding job as usual.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
