76th Annual Oberg Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 25:

It was a beautiful day for sailing with gusts from 8 to 12 coming out of the west. The set course was an inner-outer loop trapezoid and we managed to get off ten races in each of the three divisions, finishing at 4:30. The wind was shifty and puffy as expected throughout the day but sailors handled the conditions very well. There were about 10 protests made and 3 resulted in DSQs. URI is currently in the lead, with Dartmouth following close behind by 3 points, going into the races tomorrow.

We would like to thank the MIT staff for helping us run the regatta and the coaches who helped the protests run smoothly and reach solid verdicts.

Sunday, October 26:

A shifty westerly between 5-15 knots with gusts to 20 began the day. The breeze shifted to the northwest near the end of the day. 7 races were completed in each of our three devisions. Thank you to Fran Charles, Wally Corwin and all the MIT staff for helping Northeastern host the Oberg Trophy and to Maarten Eenkema Van Dijk (NU '14) for running the races. Also on race committee were Peter Christensen ('18), Colin Henderson ('15), Abby Duclos ('19), Margo Blagden ('17), Zach Shapiro ('15), Luke Orchardo ('16) and several other Northeastern sailors. Additional thank-you's to all coaches who helped hear protests.

Congratulations to the University of Rhode Island For winning the Oberg Trophy by a narrow margin!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
