Week at a Glance: Seahawks ? September 6-12, 2021

NEWPORT, R.I. – It's a busy week ahead for Salve Regina athletics, here's what to look forward to for all of our fall teams competing this week (September 6-12, 2021).

WEDNESDAY (Sept. 8)
Seahawk women's volleyball makes its home debut for second-year head coach Sebastian Noordzy (6 p.m.). Salve Regina's Bridget Solheim (19 Kills, 12 digs) and Kate Murphy (34 digs) excelled in the five-set match with Wheaton on Saturday. (**THIS CONTEST HAS BEEN POSTPONED**)

Salve Regina women's soccer plays at United States Coast Guard Academy with a 6 p.m. first touch in New London, Conn. The Seahawks won 2-0 the last time they visited the Bears (Sept. 13, 2016). The 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Year, junior Meagan McLaughlin (two goals, two assists, six points), has led the Seahawks (2-1) in their first three games.

Seahawk men's soccer returns to the road when they take on UMass Dartmouth at 7 p.m. at Cressy Field. The Corsairs fell at Salem State, 4-2, in their first game of the season. Nilin Nehra scored off an assist from John Aguiar, and Cody Santo put home an unassisted goal. Salve Regina has already played three matches and is 1-2 on the year, one of its losses was to LEC opponent UMass Boston (2-0). The Seahawks are led by graduate student Jacob Guerra and sophomore Zeke Menendez, who each have two goals.

THURSDAY (Sept. 9)
Salve Regina field hockey also travels to North Dartmouth, Mass., to play at 7 p.m. against UMass Darmouth. The Seahawks are 2-0 with victories over Wheaton (3-2), and Johnson & Wales (4-0). Senior Eliza Timms has three goals on the year for Salve Regina.

FRIDAY (Sept. 10)
Seahawk women's volleyball digs its first of two Friday night matches when it plays Hamilton College (7 p.m.) in the first ever matchup between the two schools in any sport. Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., is the site for Friday night.

SATURDAY (Sept. 11)
On the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, Salve Regina will observe a moment of silence and reflection at each of its four home contests.

The Seahawk sailing program competes in two regattas this weekend including Bristol, R.I., at the Mt. Hope Bay Invite and New Haven, Conn., at the Harry Anderson Trophy (10 a.m.). Alex Bowdler serves as captain for the 2021-22 Seahawks.

Salve Regina men's and women's cross country race in the Endicott College Invitational (11 a.m., 11:45 a.m.) in Beverly, Mass.; it's the second of three straight weeks the Seahawks run in the North Shore. Last week, just one point separated the three teams in the Battle of the North Shore at Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon, but the Salve Regina women's cross country team found itself on the losing end of each of the scoring scenarios. Senior captain Cate Norton set the pace for Salve Regina, finishing fourth overall in the 5,000-meter race.

Salve Regina women's volleyball heads up to Boston, Mass., for two matches - first a neutral battle with Bates (11 a.m.) followed by a contest with the host Beacons of UMass Boston (1:30 p.m.).

Seahawk field hockey has a 12 p.m. start at Gaudet Field against Clark University.

Salve Regina women's soccer head coach Jane Walsh entertains her alma mater, Keene State, in a 12 p.m. start at Reynolds Field.

After a resounding 38-0 win at Norwich University last Friday night, Salve Regina football has its home debut at Toppa Field against MIT (1 p.m.). The Seahawks and Engineers met four days after the terrorist attacks 20 years ago, also at Toppa Field, with Salve Regina winning, 32-11. In this year's season-opener, senior running back Joey Mauriello carried the ball 34 times for 261 yards and two touchdowns against the Cadets.

Salve Regina men's soccer caps off the week with a visit from former CCC rival Eastern Nazarene to Toppa Field (7 p.m.).
