Seahawks land 48 on Fall Academic All-CCC
NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 48 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2018 Fall Academic All-Conference Team, announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.
The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. This is the sixth time the honor has been separated into two seasons - fall and spring. In total, 416 student-athletes representing all nine member institutions were selected for the Fall Academic All-Conference Team - men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
Included among the honorees are the seven winners of the CCC Scholar-Athlete awards in their respective sports. Endicott's Abigail Keim (Williston, Vt.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) were the Scholar-Athletes in women's cross country and women's tennis, respectively. Salve Regina also had two Scholar-Athlete honorees as Jordan Elster (Sutton, Mass.) was recognized in men's soccer and Kendall Wilcox(Pomfret, Conn.) earned the award in women's volleyball. Gordon's Briana Kowolenko (Brooklyn, Conn.) was field hockey's Scholar-Athlete award winner, while Nichols' Joseph Santese (Danielson, Conn.) and the University of New England's Avery Bond (Jefferson, Maine) were the recipients in men's cross country and women's soccer, respectively.
There were 11 major award winners who earned spots on the fall Academic All-Conference list with five of them representing the Gulls. Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.) was a field hockey Offensive Player of the Year, while Conner Couchot (Mason, Ohio) and Kadrianna Letts (Beverly, Mass.) earned Defensive Player of the Year awards in men's and women's soccer. Two women's volleyball major award winners also made the list with Player of the Year Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) and Libero of the Year Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) both being recognized. UNE also placed multiple award winners on the list as field hockey Defensive Player of the Year Kersey Boulay (Liberty, Maine), men's cross country Runner and Rookie of the Year Jacob Hickey (Winthrop, Maine), and women's cross country Runner of the Year Emily Wasina (Waterboro, Maine) all earned spots. Women's soccer Offensive Player of the Year Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) from Gordon, women's tennis Player of the Year Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) from Nichols, and field hockey Offensive Player of the Year Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) from Salve Regina were the three other major award winners who received Academic All-Conference honors.
Each of the major award winners were also First Team All-CCC members. Overall there were 52 Academic All-CCC members who were also All-CCC First Teamers. Additionally, 22 Second Team and 14 Third Team performers were honored.
