Most sports covered with call to the Hall for Sheedy, Phillips, Farrea, and Brule
NEWPORT, R.I. - Four more to join the Salve Regina Athletic Hall of Fame in the fall: coach and administrator Lynn Sheedy '93M, basketball and tennis player Erin Phillips '11, coach Tom Farrea, football and baseball player Jay Brule '01. The group will be honored during Sept. 30 brunch at Ochre Court.
Established 20 years ago when the school was celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Athletic Hall of Fame seeks to honor and recognize individuals and groups that have contributed to the rich traditions of Salve Regina. Brule, Farrea, Phillips, and Sheedy will join 42 others already enshrined in the Salve Regina Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame brunch caps off a full weekend of events in and around campus for the Seahawks. It all begins Friday, Sept. 28, with a Kickoff Fiesta (5 p.m.) followed by a sold-out Murder Mystery in Wakehurst Student Center. Teams in action on Saturday include women's volleyball (10 a.m., versus Worcester State), football (12 p.m., versus Western New England University), women's soccer (12 p.m., versus Western New England), women's tennis (12 p.m., versus Wentworth - a program formerly coached by Phillips), field hockey (1 p.m., versus University of New England), men's soccer (3 p.m., versus Western New England), and both cross country programs racing in Lincoln, R.I.

Lynn Sheedy '93M – served as director of athletics for nine seasons which saw the department grow from 14 to 18 varsity sports. Her tenure helped usher in football, field hockey, and men's ice hockey to NCAA Division III status. Before and during her administrative role, Sheedy also coached teams to championship levels. Five seasons with women's basketball, her Newporters went 72-39 (.649), won three straight regular-season championships and two-straight conference tournament crowns, while becoming the first program in school history to advance to an ECAC postseason tournament. Two seasons with women's soccer, Sheedy capped her Salve Regina coaching résumé with the program's first conference championship.
Tom Farrea – coached Salve Regina men's ice hockey program for 14 seasons (1984-1998) which included its first year of NCAA Division III competition. As a local Newport County business owner, he is held in the highest regard by his peers and has positively influenced the lives of thousands throughout his coaching career. Farrea's 1987-88 squad posted a 13-8-1 overall record including a win over Clark University for the New England Small College Hockey Association championship.
Jay Brule '01 – a three-sport athlete at Salve Regina culminated his career with a conference championship in baseball and the program's first-ever trip to the NCAAs. As a pitcher and infielder, Brule was the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year during his junior season (2000). As a wide receiver, he led the Seahawks in catches and yardage each of final two seasons which included an appearance in the first-ever NEFC Championship Game. Brule was Salve Regina Male Athlete of the Year as a senior.
Erin Phillips '11 – a two-sport athlete at Salve Regina captured Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships in basketball as a sophomore and senior. She was named the CCC Player of the Year in her final season on the hardwood when she finished as the school's second-leading scorer all-time. Phillips also played three seasons with tennis at the top singles and doubles positions. Phillips was Salve Regina Female Athlete of the Year as a senior as well as the school's honoree for RIAIAW Distinguished Student Athlete.
