Amber Cody selected as Salve Regina's RIAIAW Distinguished Athlete
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior field hockey player Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) joined eight other honorees as Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) as Distinguished Student Athlete Award winners. The organization holds its annual distinguished athlete reception at one of the nine higher education institutions in the state, and the rotation returned to Salve Regina's campus in Newport with Ochre Court as the setting.
"While coaching Amber the past four years I've seen her not only grow as a player but as a person. She's served as a strong role model for our younger players - especially our nursing majors - who could see that with focus and commitment you could combine both nursing and playing a sport and do it successfully." - head field hockey coach Jennifer Foster.
Cody enjoyed a career year as a senior, leading the Seahawks for the second straight season in scoring (22 goals in 18 games; 1.22 goals per game) which included a program-tying five-goal effort during a win at Gordon College. The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Offensive Player of the Year also led the league in assists (nine) while ranking second in goals and points (53). She'll graduate in May 2018 and ranks second all-time on the school's record books for career assists (25), third for career goals (43), and fourth for career points (111).
In December, she became the school's first field hockey All-American - http://www.salveathletics.com/sports/fh/2017-18/releases/20171207isykei
