Mooradian announces promotions for Habershaw, Villareal

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University director of athletics Jody Mooradian announces the promotions of Ed Habershaw to Associate Athletic Director and Bill Villareal to Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations.

Habershaw has served as Sports Information Director at Salve Regina University since 1992, whereas the program has grown to 20 varsity sports with additions such as equestrian, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s volleyball. Habershaw also served as the head coach of the women’s tennis team from 1992 to 2013. His career record of 209 wins and 100 losses (.676) includes 10 conference championships and three runner-up finishes on the women's side. Habershaw also guided the Salve Regina men's tennis program for four years in the 1990s, winning three conference championships.

“It is with great pleasure and pride that I get to announce that Ed Habershaw has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director at Salve Regina,” said Mooradian. “Ed continues to provide outstanding leadership and vision for Salve Regina Athletics.  Through his experiences as a successful coach, Sports Information Director, and oversight of special events and Alumni outreach he has created a vibrant leadership style that encompasses the mission and goals of Salve Regina.”

Villareal is in his fourth year at Salve Regina, where he has served as the women’s lacrosse head coach. Villareal has brought over 30 years of lacrosse experience to Salve Regina. A retired U.S. Navy Commander, Villareal started his lacrosse career in the 1980s as a student at St. Mary's High School in Annapolis, Md. He is a former defenseman at the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I., and former defensemen at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., with NCAA Division I tournament experience. Villareal will continue to serve as women’s lacrosse head coach in addition to his administrative duties. 

“Bill brings the utmost integrity and skill to this position. Having served in many leadership roles as a Naval officer he exemplifies the values of the institution.  We could not be more pleased to have someone at this level of experience join our leadership team,” said Mooradian.
