Seahawks win academic honors from USTFCCCA

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina men's and women's cross country teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Teams must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or better to qualify for the USTFCCCA award.

The women's team has earned All-Academic standing for four consecutive years, while the men's team has been recognized for the last two years. Nationwide in Division III, 207 women's teams and 151 men's teams met the criteria for the USTFCCCA's academic honors.

"I'm pleased to see both of our teams on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list again this year," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "Maintaining our team GPA is always among our goals for each season, and I'm proud that we hit the mark. This award reaffirms that our student-athletes are performing just as well in the classroom as they are on the course."

Salve Regina University and Roger Williams University were the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schools recognized by the USTFCCCA. The All-Academic Team award comes not long after the Seahawks had a healthy showing on the fall Academic All-CCC Team. Ten women and six men from Salve Regina's cross country teams earned academic honors from the CCC.
